Spotlight: Fairfax Falcons Paralympic Sports

On occasion, SBANCA will feature partner groups and organizations that offer unique opportunities for our members. This month, we focus on the Fairfax Falcons Paralympic Sports teams.

The 2016-2017 Fairfax Falcons basketball season is a little better than halfway complete, and what a season it has been so far! Both the varsity and prep teams are ranked nationally (varsity is currently ranked 18th in the country, and the prep team is fourth) as we continue to prepare for the national championship tournament coming in March in Louisville.

There are three different levels of participation. The varsity team consists of male and female athletes ages 18 and under. Teams compete playing on regulation basketball courts with 10-foot baskets. The prep team is for players 13 and under, and uses 8.5-foot baskets. For those who are new to the sport, there is a novice program that offers basic instruction and fun activities for players as young as four years old. Weekly practices are held on Saturdays at the James Lee Community Center for all teams, with regular scrimmages taking place on weekday evenings.

The next tournament for the Falcons will take place in Baltimore the weekend of February 17-19. Come join us and cheer the Falcons on to victory!
